SUBSTATIONS STUDIES & EQUIPMENT APPLICATIONS
With over twenty years of experience in the energy sector, Dr. Jorge Hollman is the Senior Manager for the Substations Studies and Equipment Applications group at Powertech Labs. He is a recognized power systems expert and has experience in modelling, transients, equipment specification and performance in planning and operations. At Powertech, Jorge’s team has a variety of technical specialties including arc flashing, stations equipment applications, insulation coordination, Point On Wave (POW) switching applications, transient recovery voltage (TRV), temporary over voltage (TOV) and transients analysis.
Dr. Arash Tavighi is an Engineer in the Substations Studies & Equipment Applications department at Powertech Labs. He has broad experience in modelling and simulation in power systems, electro-magnetic transients programs, as well as applications of signal processing algorithms in power systems.
Prior to joining Powertech, Dr. Tavighi worked as a Consultant Engineer with BC Hydro, and as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the University of British Columbia.
Mr. Thomas An is an Electrical Engineer for the Substation Services group at Powertech Labs. In this role he is responsible for performing Arc Flash Studies for utilities including Generating Stations, Substations and Distribution systems. He also works to evaluate protection and control scheme, performs short circuit studies and develops relay test plans. Additionally, Thomas supports other departments with any protection and control related projects. Thomas is a professional engineer registered with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
Somayeh Farhadkhani is an electrical engineer in the Substations Studies & Equipment Applications department at Powertech Labs. She is specialized in power system studies. She holds a Master’s degree in power system engineering and passed professional training in power system protection. She completed various projects in the fields of grounding and AC interference of power lines on pipelines for FBC and BC Hydro by using SES-ROW & CDEGS. She participated in short-circuit and protection studies and completed various arc flash studies for BC Hydro, BCRTC, Shell and ALCOA. She has worked in the fields of power distribution, distributed generation and electrical panels. She also has research experience in protection of distributed systems, working for ORES, the first electricity and gas distributor in Wallonia, Belgium.
Sean Deonarine is a Project Engineer for High Current Technologies within the Transmission and Distribution sector at Powertech labs. His primary areas of focus include testing certification of power system components, temperature rise testing and current cycle testing with reference to industry standards and quality assurance.
Sean completed his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Calgary, and is a registered Engineer in Training with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia.
Sean is currently in a six month development rotation with the Substations Studies and Equipment Applications department.
