Health Canada has established national safety limits for human exposure to radiofrequencies, these safety limits have been adopted throughout Canada for all types of electrical and radio installations and devices. The Safety Code 6 regulations are the measurement procedures to ensure compliance with Health Canada regulations being, “Limits of Human Exposure to Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Energy in the Frequency Range from 3 kHz to 300 GHz”. The measurements enable companies and organisations to establish where the safe working zone is in respect of electrical and radio installations and devices. It is mandated that all electrical and radio installations are operated in a manner that complies with Safety Code 6. Although the current version of the regulations are dated 2015, the limits are based on an ongoing review of published scientific studies on the health impacts of RF energy and how it interacts with the human body.
Powertech Testing
Powertech Labs’ test facility can carry out field and lab tests to Safety Code 6 requirements from below 3 kHz to 50 GHz.
Powertech’s area of focus is on industrial sites, including substations, power generation facilities, transportation hubs, and factories.
Our staff are fully trained to assess the pretest information to judge the key site locations to be tested, both from the information provided by the client and publicly available information.
The test report provided is in line with the requirements of Safety Code 6 to provide information on the areas where it is unsafe, so the areas that should be fenced off from the public can be identified. The test report can also provide guidelines on the site improvements to enable the impact of Safety Code 6 to be minimized.
Additional information is provided in the report to show areas both where the general public should be exclude and areas where trained staff can access for short periods of time as specified by Safety Code 6.
