Wednesday, October 26th 2011- Powertech joins the City of Surrey and BC Hydro to launch the City’s first public electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Surrey.

The installation of the EV charging station demonstrates the City’s commitment to reduce corporate and community GHG emissions. Mayor Dianne Watts and her Council have taken a leadership role in environmental conservation by promoting “green” initiatives in their community.

“The launch of the City’s first free electric vehicle charging station really demonstrates how local partnerships can come together to achieve our provincial environmental objectives,” said Kathy Nguyen, Acting President & CEO at Powertech.

For this EV installation, Powertech provided the EV technical expertise to manage the planning, design and installation of the City’s first EV charging station. With Powertech’s support, our engineers ensured that the highest quality controls and standards were achieved for this installation.

As a clean energy solutions provider, Powertech continues to work with the City to achieve their EnergyShift goals. Additional projects with the City include the implementation of hydrogen internal combustion engine powered pick-up trucks for fleet use, as well as the installation and permitting of the City’s two hydrogen fuelling stations.

The event includes the announcement of the deployment of the 100 per cent electric Nissan LEAFs to the City’s fleet.  Thus far, BC Hydro and the City of Surrey are piloting the Nissan LEAF to assess the performance and efficiency of these vehicles.
