For example, Powertech specializes in accelerated wear and friction testing for self-lubricating bearings. In fact, it is the only lab in the world with the unique expertise to conduct life testing of self-lubricating bearings for hydroelectric plants for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. This background also has direct application for assessment of bearing performance in other fields such as the marine industry. Testing is performed using our in-house custom universal load frame. Bearing properties such as static and dynamic coefficients of friction, wear rate, and operating temperature are continuously monitored and reported during testing under wet and dry conditions.
Similarly, Powertech’s Applied Chemistry Department is world renowned for its work in chemical assessment, diagnostics, and material evaluation. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments for chemical, material, and polymer analyses focusing on insulating oils and gases, lubricants, fuels, and coolants.
Powertech also serves nonprofit organizations such as the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Independent System Operators (ISOs), and Regional Transmission Operators (RTOs). For example, seven of nine ISOs in North America use the power system analysis tools in Powertech’s DSATools™.
In addition, Powertech conducts product testing and advanced R&D with a variety of universities, research institutes, and government agencies, such as the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), CEATI International, the United States Department of Energy (DOE), Sandia National Laboratories, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
