GENERATION TECHNOLOGY & TESTING
As Senior Manager of Powertech’s Generation Technology & Testing group, Mr. Darren Bromley focuses on supporting asset integrity management for electrical utilities and equipment manufacturers. Collaborating with Powertech’s internal experts, Mr. Bromley’s team offers engineering techniques for damage mitigation, repair strategies, and asset life extension for efficient and cost-effective solutions. The team also provides failure analysis (forensic investigation), fitness-for-service analysis, weld repair strategies, coatings and corrosion testing and consulting, evaluation of material properties, microstructural assessment, and general metallurgical consultation.
Dr. Sasi Sasitharan is a technical leader and project manager on Powertech’s Inspections team, providing a diverse array of testing and consultation services including non-destructive testing, civil and seismic engineering, and on-site inspections. His fields of interest include laboratory and field testing of soils, embankment dam surveillance and seepage investigation, seismic design, geomembrane technology, and carbon sequestration. He has authored numerous publications on these subjects. He is a registered professional engineer in the Province of British Columbia and is a member of the Canadian Geotechnical Engineering Society.
Mr. Reza Soltani is the Team Lead for Generation Services within the Generation Technology and Testing sector at Powertech Labs. He is an Electrical Engineer who has extensive experience in design, testing and evaluation of insulation systems of high voltage rotating machines. With more than 17 years of experience, he leads the Generation Services team who provide a variety of diagnostic tests and accelerated aging programs for evaluation of stator bars/coils, as well as condition assessment and site testing for large rotating machines.
Mr. Gordon Balfour brings more than three decades of experience to his position of Non-destructive Testing Specialist. He received his Diploma of Mechanical Engineering Technology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 1979. He then worked at Lister Bolt and Chain for 22 years in positions of increasing responsibility, developing procedures and personnel for inspection and testing programs and managing major projects. As president of Performance Metals Inc. he provided consulting and contract services in quality assurance, inspection, testing and materials. He joined Powertech in 2004.
Mr. Glenn Stark is a Senior Materials and Corrosion Engineer and Project Manager with Powertech’s Applied Materials lab. Through 15 years of engineering practice he has developed expertise in a diverse range of consulting engineering services.
Mr. Tom Szakacs is a Nondestructive Testing Specialist Leader carrying out maintenance inspections throughout BC Hydro facilities and for contractors requiring maintenance overhaul support in NDT methods. Mr. Szakacs consults with engineers within BC Hydro and with outside contractors in support of NDT and weld inspections of fabricated components and repairs.
Mr. Ray Yuen is a senior project specialist in Powertech’s Applied Materials team, where he has operated the coatings lab and provided consulting, accelerated testing, site inspection and failure analysis services to national and international clients. His primary roles include consultation on and assessment of industrial coatings, installation of sacrificial cathodic protection, and project management.
A project engineer in the Generation Technology & Testing group, Mr. John Zong specializes in on-site testing of power generators of different types to meet compliance requirements including WECC-mandated generator testing policy and NERC reliability standards. He also conducts dynamic model validation for generators at the system level using Powertech’s industry-leading DSATools™ software package. He has been actively contributing in NERC Power Plant Model Verification Task Force (PPMVTF) and NERC Inverter-Based Resource Performance Task Force (IRPTF).
