Mr. Stephen Varisco is the Manager of Applied Chemistry & Environment at Powertech Labs. With 20 years of analytical laboratory experience in the field of environmental testing, Stephen is responsible for all unit testing performed in the environmental, transformer oil and coolant/fuel/lubricant departments. He has extensive expertise with laboratory optimization, method validation, data interpretation and laboratory information systems (LIMS), and is currently the vice chair of the British Columbia Environmental Laboratory Technical Advisory Committee (BCELTAC).

As a chemist in Powertech’s Applied Chemistry lab, Mr. Weili Kang is responsible for projects and tests on insulating and lubricating oils, as well as laboratory and field tests for moisture and SF6 decomposition products in in-service SF6-insulated equipment.

Before joining Powertech in 2004, Mr. Kang held senior chemist positions with the HeBei Electric Power Research Institute and with the Xi’an Thermal Power Research Institute in China, where he received a Master’s degree in Power Plant Chemistry.

Mr. Jeff Lang is an experienced Chemical Technician in Powertech’s Applied Chemistry Department’s Environmental Lab. He joined the Applied Chemistry team in 1999 and managed the Oil Quality section, performing the analysis of insulating oil samples, and also assisted the Fuels and Lubrication section. Since 2011 Mr. Lang has worked in the Environmental Lab where he performs an array of tests on water and soil samples. He has served as Group Leader of the Environmental Lab since January 2015.

Mr. Lang graduated Magna Cum Laude in Chemical Sciences Technology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
